Let’s talk about Virtual!
Our children’s worlds have experienced new levels of remoteness during this
pandemic…school, activities, outings, and more. There are pros and cons to the increase in
virtual offerings, but the pros outweigh the cons.
Families may struggle with “remote learning,” but are also spending more time together.
Children can take unique enrichment programs. They are also able to continue life-changing
services through virtual means. But even before the pandemic, there were benefits to virtual
therapies.
Virtual services help busy parents! It is convenient to turn on a computer and begin a 30-
minute therapy session and be done in time for dinner. As oppose to loading up the kids,
driving across town in traffic, and getting fast food, for a 30-minute appointment that really
takes 2 hours.
More importantly, research shows that virtual therapy sessions are just as effective as inperson
sessions! Virtual sessions are private and keep your family safe, which is especially
important during flu season, for children with health concerns, etc. In addition, children are
typically more comfortable inside their home during sessions. And let’s not forget how easy it is
for children to adapt to technology.

It is important however, to make sure that some of your child’s remote options have live people
interacting with your child on the other end. This interaction with an engaging adult makes
learning fun and ensures positive social-emotional development. Virtual services are a great
option for children and families.
