Celebrating My Mom By Mary Wroblewski
The beautiful time of the year when we celebrate mothers is upon us. I would like to honor my mama in my article this year.
From my earliest memories I recall a strong beautiful woman. Not that I knew it then, but there was [MW1] always that essence of strength; the mother of five, not always angelic, children was a force of nature. She worked outside of the home when many of her generation did not. She was a teacher and guidance counselor and always a woman of great faith. To this day my mama continues to start her day with morning Mass. Until the Pandemic she was a Eucharistic Minister bringing communion to those who couldn’t get out.
Pre-pandemic, my mama tackled her overbooked calendar with the zeal of a warrior. Her days were full and satisfying and although tiring, her activities stoked her fire. My mama, at 94 is sharp as a tack and will spark lively debate on most topics thrown at her. As with many, she has slowed down considerably since the Pandemic forced her to be still. The additional insult of a catastrophic hurricane in her hometown has been difficult for her to bear and 9 months post hurricane her beloved town is far from recovered. Yet, she perseveres as she always has in the true fashion of a real southern woman; with resiliency, poise and grace. She remains ever ready to lend comfort, counsel, love and prayer to her family no matter how old we get or how far away we live.
Still a force of nature, I know that my mama has and will always be there for me and my siblings in all that we are and all that we do. She is that strength that we dig deep for. She is the sharing of love, comfort and counsel. She inspires the prayer that we pray for ourselves, our families and all of humanity. She is the reminder that the promise of our Savior’s love will light even the darkest of times and bring forgiveness, unity and hope to our troubled world and everlasting life to our weary souls.
Wishing my mama and Wayne County’s mothers, a Happy Mother’s Day!
