Happy Fall Y'all!! By Mary Wroblewski
Fall is here! We may not always recognize it by our daytime high temperatures, but the calendar assures us it is so. The days are shorter, leaves are falling and crunching under our feet and the higher elevations are already showing off the majesty of color that only this season can bring. Fall is a time of year when we celebrate harvest and prepare for the starkness of the winter ahead.
For me, there is no time of year that I enjoy my kitchen more than Fall. It is a time of year that I “want” to cook rather than “have” to cook. There is nothing more comforting than red beans, sausage and rice, gumbo, chili or vegetable soup simmering on the stove or apples baking in the oven. I am even happy to get started in the kitchen early so I can get outside and enjoy the beauty that God has given us to behold.
Maybe it’s my age, or the fact that I am retired and finally have time to just “be,” but usually an avid reader, I find myself so easily distracted from my books these days; by hummingbirds still at my feeders or enjoying nectar from flowers still blooming, by leaves carried gently on the breeze, squirrels scampering through the yard readying their stores for winter, and by ever-present cardinals and doves at home in the trees. Whatever distraction occupies your soul, Fall activities are in full swing; from festivals, fairs, sports events, and concerts, to walking, hiking, biking, and camping.
So, with humidity low and temperatures tolerable, discover your joy outside and enjoy all of the amazing beauty Wayne County has to offer.
Happy Fall Y’all!
