Happy Spring and Easter!
April is here and the beauty of Wayne County is unfolding. As I’ve written before, Spring is my favorite season in North Carolina and our County puts on an impressive show; all that is needed to enjoy it, is a walk in your neighborhood, a hike along a county trail, or a simple drive around the country roads of the county. I am sure you are already enjoying, from wherever you lay your head, the beautiful sounds of birds chirping as you wake in the morning. All of nature is renewing. We note new wildlife sticking close to their mothers if we venture out in the woods and countryside. However, the easiest observations to be made are the birds bustling around with nesting materials in their beaks and the evidence of nests in our trees, overhangs and porches.
Many of us are busy with Spring cleaning, refreshing our homes and yards in preparation for time spent with family and friends enjoying the indoor and outdoor spaces of our environment. This is a time for cleaning up and refreshing spiritually as well.
We have completed our fourth week of Lent with Holy Week and Easter Sunday quickly approaching; are you ready? Have you worked on yourself preparing for the passion, death and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ? Have you cleared the cobwebs and darkness from your soul? Will you be ready to be welcomed into the Kingdom of God when that day comes?
Spring, and Lent particularly remind us of the need for these tasks. We generally have a plan, and we set aside time and reflection for it; but we all know we don’t clean our homes only in the Spring and we don’t take a good look at our spiritual life only during Lent. These tasks are 24/7/365…we are always doing something to keep up our homes, work life, home life, work and personal relationships, physical and mental wellness, but are often too exhausted to take a real look inside of our spiritual life. Maybe with a bit of Lent still ahead of us and the awesome celebration of the resurrection of our Lord, we use this time to prepare our hearts and souls for Easter Sunday and resolve to make our immortal soul as important everyday as everything else on our agenda.
Happy Spring and Happy Easter, CHRIST IS RISEN Wayne County!
