UNC Health: Opening New Vertical Treatment Care Unit

In the coming weeks, UNC Health Wayne will be opening its new vertical treatment care area, located right inside its Emergency Department. This addition is designed to function as an urgent care space, offering a strategic solution to manage patient flow, reduce wait times, and ensure that individuals receive the appropriate care promptly.

This innovative approach comes after a thorough review of the types of patients who come to our Emergency Department for care. Recognizing that urgency levels vary from patient to patient, our vertical care treatment area is prepared to treat patients with less urgent needs, ensuring that they receive prompt attention from our dedicated team of professionals. Meanwhile, our Emergency Department teammates will continue to prioritize and address critical cases coming into the ED.

At the core of our new vertical care treatment area is our unwavering dedication to refining the patient experience at UNC Health Wayne. By redirecting less urgent cases to the vertical treatment area, we aim to create a healthcare environment that is not only more organized and efficient but also one that minimizes wait times and optimally delivers the quality care our community deserves.

The introduction of the vertical care treatment area will redefine the patient experience for those coming to the Emergency Department and reaffirms UNC Health Wayne’s commitment of delivering high-quality health care to all North Carolinians. UNC Health Wayne looks forward to the positive impact this approach will have on the wait times in the Emergency Department and on the overall health and well-being of those we serve.
